The 48-Hour Guide to Palma de Mallorca

read the post
You are thinking sunshine, sightseeing, city and beach? Mallorca is the perfect compromise between Barcelona & Ibiza. In order to make the most of the island, we suggest you rent a car and spend one week exploring the mainland as well as the coastline. But if you are just heading there for a weekend getaway, here are the tips you should read prior to your departure!

Hostel

Cheap, Concept Design, Urban Style, Great Location, Nice Showers & Comfy Beds that sums up quite well the Hostel Fleming . 15-minute drive from the airport (15€ fare) this 24-hour reception hostel is very well located, next to the Estacio Intermodal where all the trains and buses around the island depart. If you wish to go to Magaluf for example or downtown Palma, it is a 5-minute walk from there. The hostel has the best showers, a shared kitchen, free wifi, restaurant and terrasse for a very great deal. All you need for a two-night in Palma!

Restaurants

All you need to order in any restaurants you go to is Tapas & Cañas . You may know caña under the other name of clara in Catalunya. It's a mix of beer and lemonade (half & half) and it's cheaper than water! One caña costs 0.99€ and trust me you will not only drink one! When it comes to tapas, either you order a set menu (usually atound 10 €) or a set of different sorts to share. Everything is delicious from the Jamon Iberico (spanish ham) to the famous spanish Tortilla (potatoe omelette).

Our favourite restaurant at lunch or dinner is the Cafe Coto, all pink painted and Frida Kalho theme deco.

Now here is THE place where you should have brunch after a night out. Vintage Santa Catalina is a beautiful coffee place where the inside and outside is so cute you will feel like at home. It's own by a lovely couple and the food is delicious! Order their fresh orange juice and their nachos for a start, you'll revive straight away! Note their kitchen only opens at 1pm, like most of the restaurants in Palma.

Nightlife

Anywhere around Santa Catalina is great to experience Live Music or Watch Football Games. If you want to experience Palma de Mallorca the "local" way we suggest you head to Blu Copas Bar few blocks away from Hostel Fleming. They have the best mojitos we ever had (after 3 of them trust us you'll be dancing salsa like the locals) and the music is from th 80's, 90's up to now the further in the night you get. There are people from every age and mainly from Palma or Barcelona. It's lots of fun and the DJ rocks n' roll! The bar is open from 4pm to 4am.

Shopping

If you are looking for souvenirs, Avenida Antoni Maura is the perfect spot. For Fashion & Luxury, best street is Passeig de Born where you get everything from Zara to Louis Vuitton. Watch out if you wish to stop for a tea or coffee, the terrasses are quite overpriced!

Salud!
